Observation of liquid glass in molecular dynamics simulations featured

A novel state of matter called "liquid glass" has been identified in ellipsoidal colloids, characterized by hindered rotational motion and free particle diffusion, resembling a disordered nematic liquid crystal. Research using Brownian dynamics simulations confirms that in this state, rotation freezes while translational motion continues, supporting the existence of dual glass transitions for these separate movements.

Flux-Tunable Josephson Diode Effect in a Hybrid Four-Terminal Josephson Junction

A flux-tunable four-terminal Josephson junction in an InAs/Al heterostructure demonstrates the Josephson diode effect with bias-dependent switching currents and up to 34% efficiency, adjustable by magnetic flux and gate voltage. This advancement, supported by a model of three parallel Josephson junctions, enables efficient, structurally symmetric Josephson diodes without exotic materials, breaking time-reversal and spatial symmetries with local fluxes.

Scheme of the experimental setup and spectra of the regenerative Yb:YAG thin-disk amplifier

Nonlinear Generation, Compression and Spatio-Temporal Analysis of sub-GV/cm-Class Femtosecond Mid-Infrared Transients

A Yb:YAG thin-disk regenerative amplifier achieves electric fields over 330 MV cm−1 at 45 THz, exceeding submolecular field conditions, by overcoming the trade-off between efficiency and bandwidth through self-phase modulation. Its high repetition rate and beam quality enable advanced spectroscopic studies, including solitonic self-compression and subcycle-scale supercontinua with electro-optic sampling.

Scheme about Achieving CEP stability in the output of an OPO. Conceptual depiction of the input and output of an OPO under three different experimental conditions: (a) a non- degenerate OPO pumped with a CEP-stable pulse train ( f (pump) = 0), (b) a degenerate OPO pumped with a non-CEP-stable pulse train, and (c) a degenerate OPO pumped CEO with a CEP-stable pulse train. Each panel depicts the energy diagram of the OPO process (left), a schematic of the electric fields of the pump pulse train (center), and the output pulse train (right). The highlighted areas emphasize the occurrence of pulses with identical CEPs.

Direct sampling of femtosecond electric-field waveforms from an optical parametric oscillator

Field-resolved analysis of optical pulses across various spectra can significantly advance quantum optics and spectroscopy; this is achieved through electro-optic sampling in a high-efficiency resonant system like an optical parametric oscillator, producing carrier-envelope phase-stable mid-infrared pulses and revealing a novel "flipping" state with inverted electric fields between consecutive pulses.

Lateral solid phase epitaxy of yttrium iron garnet

Editor's suggestion: Lateral solid phase epitaxy was used to create high-quality yttrium iron garnet thin films over nonplanar structures, demonstrating controlled crystal orientation. Annealing experiments provided key parameters for engineering single-crystalline nonplanar yttrium iron garnet structures, potentially useful in spintronics.

Femtosecond electron beam probe of terahertz electronics. A laser pump pulse with femtosecond duration (red) creates a terahertz voltage pulse (magenta) by closing a photoconductive switch. The terahertz voltage pulse then travels into the device under test (DUT) and triggers its operation. Femtosecond electron pulses (grey) probe the local electric and magnetic field vectors (magenta) by means of time-frozen Lorentz forces and electron beam deflections. Changing the delay between the activation of the switch and the probing electron pulses (dashed lines) provides a measurement with femtosecond time resolution and terahertz bandwidth.

Femtosecond electron beam probe of ultrafast electronics

To meet the demand for faster information processing, ultrafast electron beam probes offer femtosecond time resolution and millivolt sensitivity, enabling direct analysis of device dynamics and integration into semiconductor inspection devices for next-generation electronics development.

Interplay of Andreev Reflection and Coulomb Blockade in Hybrid Superconducting Single-Electron Transistors

We investigate the interaction between Coulomb blockade and superconductivity in a single-electron transistor setup, observing that even above the superconducting gap, Cooper pair transport and Andreev reflection play significant roles, with Coulomb blockade effects reappearing at high bias. Experimental results align with simulations incorporating rate equations and full counting statistics of multiple Andreev reflection.

Quantum gates with oscillating exchange interaction

Oscillating exchange pulses enable both CZ and iSWAP gates for two-qubit operations, offering flexibility in quantum algorithms. These gates perform reliably compared to conventional CZ gates under low charge noise conditions.

Two levels of topology in skyrmion lattice dynamics

Skyrmions in thin films exhibit unique dynamics, with their diffusion constrained by a topology-dependent chiral term, resulting in a skyrmion Hall effect and reduced diffusion coefficients. Surprisingly, two-dimensional skyrmion lattices display partially lifted diffusion suppression, leading to enhanced diffusive properties at higher particle density, impacting the dynamics of topological lattice defects and phase formation.

Tunable 2D Electron- and 2D Hole States Observed at Fe/SrTiO3 Interfaces

The study reveals the potential to toggle between negative and positive carriers in oxide electronics by adjusting the oxidation state of an adjacent Fe-based layer in strontium titanate heterostructures, allowing for the creation of combined n/p-type all-oxide transistors or logic gates.

Microscopic theory of supercurrent suppression by gate-controlled surface depairing

Experiments reveal gate-controlled supercurrent suppression in superconducting nanobridges. The study proposes a model, indicating that magnetic impurities on the bridge surface, coupled with a gate field, can substantially suppress superconductivity, offering insights for experimental verification through surface modification.

Magnon squeezing in conical spin spirals

The research explores magnon squeezing in a conical spin spiral, revealing a connection between magnon energy in opposite directions despite different dispersion. Squeezing parameters exhibit divergence at the Brillouin zone center due to system dynamics and can vanish for specific wave vectors, with discussions on potential detection methods.
