Discovery of ultrafast spontaneous spin switching in an antiferromagnet by femtosecond noise correlation spectroscopy

Antiferromagnetic orthoferrite Sm0.7Er0.3FeO3 exhibits spontaneous picosecond spin switching due to thermal fluctuations, as observed through the analysis of pulse-to-pulse polarization fluctuations in femtosecond optical probes. The study identifies a novel mode in the spectrum, not reported in previous pump-probe experiments, confirming ultrafast spontaneous spin switching within the double-well anisotropy potential near the critical temperature of the spin reorientation transition.

Microscopic theory of supercurrent suppression by gate-controlled surface depairing

Experiments reveal gate-controlled supercurrent suppression in superconducting nanobridges. The study proposes a model, indicating that magnetic impurities on the bridge surface, coupled with a gate field, can substantially suppress superconductivity, offering insights for experimental verification through surface modification.

Magnon squeezing in conical spin spirals

The research explores magnon squeezing in a conical spin spiral, revealing a connection between magnon energy in opposite directions despite different dispersion. Squeezing parameters exhibit divergence at the Brillouin zone center due to system dynamics and can vanish for specific wave vectors, with discussions on potential detection methods.

Microwave-induced conductance replicas in hybrid Josephson junctions without Floquet—Andreev states

Light-matter coupling in a hybrid superconducting-semiconducting Josephson junction under microwave irradiation is investigated using tunnelling spectroscopy and current-phase relation measurements. The study reveals that as microwave power increases, discrete levels in tunnelling conductance become equally spaced replicas due to photon-assisted quasiparticle tunnelling into Andreev bound states, distinguishing this phenomenon from Floquet-Andreev states in mesoscopic devices.

Phase-engineering the Andreev band structure of a three-terminal Josephson junction

In hybrid Josephson junctions with three or more superconducting terminals coupled to a semiconducting region, unconventional energy band structures (Andreev matter) are engineered by controlling superconducting phase differences. Tunnelling spectroscopy measurements in a three-terminal Josephson junction setup reveal a phase-controlled Andreev molecule with hybridization effects, indicating potential future research directions in multiterminal geometries.

Microwave excitation of atomic scale superconducting bound states

Researchers successfully used microwaves to excite Yu-Shiba-Rusinov (YSR) states in superconductors with magnetic impurities, which are usually difficult to excite due to their quantum properties. This breakthrough paves the way for potential applications like YSR qubits in quantum computing.

Electrical detectability of magnon-mediated spin current shot noise

Squeezed magnons in spin currents across a ferromagnet-metal interface create spin current shot noise, but in electrically detected spin pumping experiments, this noise is much smaller than Johnson-Nyquist noise. The ratio of these noise sources isn't improved by adjusting sample geometry; it relies on material-specific transport properties, offering insights for detecting squeezed magnons via spin pumping shot noise.

Active and passive microrheology with large tracers in hard colloids

The study investigates the dynamics of a tracer particle in a bath of quasi-hard colloidal spheres using Langevin dynamics simulations and mode coupling theory (MCT), focusing on both passive and active microrheology. The findings reveal that the tracer's behavior is influenced by its size and interactions with the bath particles, and that the Brinkman equation is useful for describing the long-time diffusion of the pulled tracer in the context of transverse momentum transport.
